Genre:
The genre of music that my production fits into is Rock/Indie/Alternative. The conventions for music videos in this genre is performance based, with a narrative woven in between shots of the band performing their song.
However, I have chosen to use a story-line based video, with narrative woven in between the plot, with no performance included. I believe this can be done to good effect and have seen examples of this being pulled off successfully in music videos such as Importance of being Idle by Oasis, and Fire by Kasabian.
Style.
The main element of my music video will be plot based, and this will be a chase scene. As a result, i will have to use camera techniques such as panning shots, tracking shots along with a variety of low and high angles to create the punchy, fast paced and varied music video i want to acheive. For the cut backs to my story teller, i will use close up shots of his mouth to ensure i can effectively sync his lips with the words of the song. Using slow and fast motion will also help me to incorporate sections in the song where the intensity builds and falls, making sure that my music video builds and falls at the same rate.
In terms of video filters and transitions, i aim to use a blurred effect for the chase sequences to emphasize the speed at which they are running and the pannic that the person being chased is feeling.
Along with this i would like to use an effect on my whole production that makes the experience seem surreal, perhaps a matte effect.
As for video transitions, i will not be using many in the main part of the production as i want the camera shots to snap from one to the other quite quickly to emphasize the punchy nature of the song.
Nights With No Money lyrics.
Walks into a damp bar,
Theres more than shooting stars,
Snooker cue over your head puts you on your cold bed,
But the scummy man that hit you,
He aint coming back for a week or two,
Get him when he comes back,
Get him when he arrives.
Chorus:
Just leave it for now,
Its alright just shrug it off,
But you've got that look in your eyes,
They burn and they shine,
Aint gonna stop you,
Aint gonna stop you now.
Verse 2:
Run outside and chase him,
With your tired legs your batteling,
You shout and wave your fists but shit,
We've lost him in the mist,
Jumps over a fence and then into a car you scream,
You can run mate but you wont get far,
Get him when he comes back,
Get him when he arrives.
Chorus:
Just leave it for now,
Its alright just shrug it off,
But you've got that look in your eyes,
They burn and they shine,
Aint gonna stop you,
Aint gonna stop you now.
Guitar Solo & Instrumental.
Final Chorus:
Just leave it for now,
Its alright just shrug it off,
Nights with no money,
Nights with no money,
Make our lives funny.
Repeat Final Chorus:
Just leave it for now,
Its alright just shrug it off,
Nights with no money,
Nights with no money,
Make our lives funny.

Robbie Williams: Strong music video analysis
Robbie williams' music video "strong" starts off with a shot of him going into a swimming pool, with luxuriously beautiful surroundings, showing that he has wealth and is well off.
This shot, like most in this video, is shot in the style of a home video, to give the music video a strong sense of being an intimate glimpse into Robbie Williams' life, which ties in nicely with the song, which itself has a very personal theme, as Robbie Williams is admitting that he himself is not "strong" like everyone thinks and has personal problems of his own such as smoking to many cigarettes - "my breath smells of a thousand fags", and growing old and becoming like his father- "and when im drunk i dance like my dad".
There are more shots of Robbie Williams backstage and in his hotel room, further showing an intimate side, and these are shot with a hand held camera, which is unconventional in a music video.
The other shots used in this video are archive footage of gigs that Robbie Williams has performed and in parts, his singing is synced to the words in the song, returning partially to music video convention.
Shots of Robbie Williams backstage are used after shots of him singing to huge crouds to make the audience believe they are seing Robbie's reaction after the gig.
Also, shots of Robbie Williams and his dad are used when he referres to the his father in the song to give the audience something to refer to, and to put a face to the name.
Often, close up shots of Robbie Williams' face while he does things such as working out are used to show his face looking unhappy, despite his fame and wealth.
The overall purpose of the music video "strong" is to give fans a taste of the "real" Robbie Williams. Backstage we are given an insight into his frolics with the band and a view of what life is like from Robbie's point of view. The use of a handheld camera gives the impression that we ourself are with Robbie Williams, and this is a rare thing to see in a music video, and is extremely low budget, and therefore cost effective, compared to the usual mix of shots by proffesional camera persons and directors, conventionally used for music videos.
